Open letter to European Leaders at Malta summit
President Trump’s executive order is an assault on Europe’s interests and values. It condemns entire nations and prevents refugees who have committed no crime from finding safety, making an international response to the refugee crisis all the harder. It risks setting back co-operation on terrorism while stimulating ISIS’s recruitment. We call on the European leaders in La Valletta to respond in three ways:
1. The EU should speak with one voice in defence of international agreements and basic human rights, including the right of refuge. Seeking special deals on a country-by-country basis will simply weaken everyone.
2. The EU should launch a rule of law mission to assist EU citizens and refugees in American ports and airports. The EEAS and the member states should coordinate efforts in Washington, in order to offer the best consular protection to European citizens possible. Dual citizens should not be discriminated on the basis of their second passport.
3. The isolationist policies of our transatlantic neighbour should drive European nations closer together in sharing intelligence within the EU in order to enhance protection against terrorist threats. It is high time to think about European security, both internally and externally, in a more consolidated and responsible fashion.
Europe’s place in the world is under threat from power politics, closed borders and closing societies. European leaders should not stand by as international agreements aimed at protecting the weak, the vulnerable, those fleeing war and torture are invalidated by late night executive orders .

List otwarty do europejskich przywódców na szczycie w Malcie
Rozporządzenie wykonawcze wydane przez prezydenta Trumpa stanowi atak na europejskie wartości i interesy. Piętnuje ono całe narody i uniemożliwia uchodźcom, którzy nie popełnili żadnego przestępstwa, znalezienie schronienia, utrudniając międzynarodową reakcję na kryzys uchodźczy. Może ono również osłabić współpracę w walce z terroryzmem, zapewniając zarazem ISIS nowych rekrutów. Wzywamy europejskich przywódców zgromadzonych w La Valetcie, by zareagowali na trzy sposoby:
1. UE powinna jednym głosem bronić porozumień międzynarodowych i podstawowych praw człowieka, wliczając w to prawo do azylu. Próby uzyskania specjalnych porozumień przez poszczególne państwa jedynie osłabią wszystkich.
2. UE powinna utworzyć misję rządów państwa prawa, by wspomóc obywateli UE oraz uchodźców w amerykańskich portach i lotniskach. Europejska Służba Działań Zewnętrznych i państwa członkowskie powinny skoordynować swoje działania w Waszyngtonie, by zapewnić możliwie szerokie wsparcie konsularne dla obywateli UE. Osoby posiadające podwójne obywatelstwo nie mogą być dyskryminowane z powodu ich drugiego paszportu.
3. Izolacjonistyczna polityka naszego transatlantyckiego sąsiada powinna skłonić państwa europejskie do bliższej współpracy w kwestii wymiany danych wywiadowczych w ramach UE, by zwiększyć ochronę przed zagrożeniami terrorystycznymi. Najwyższy czas, by zacząć myśleć o bezpieczeństwie Europy – wewnętrznym i zewnętrznym – w bardziej skonsolidowany i odpowiedzialny sposób.
Power politics, zamknięte granice i zamykające się społeczeństwa są zagrożeniem dla światowej pozycji Europy. Europejscy liderzy nie mogą być obojętni, gdy porozumienia międzynarodowe broniące najsłabszych i najbardziej zagrożonych, uciekających przed wojną i torturami, są unieważnianie rozporządzeniem wydanym późną nocą.
